Our Operations
Lake Johnston
Norilsk's Lake Johnston nickel operations are located 540 kilometres east of Perth, Western Australia, in the highly productive and prospective Yilgarn region.
The regional tenement package covers in excess of 1200 square kilometres in the immediate Lake Johnston region and a further 540 square kilometres in the nearby Forrestania region.
Comprising the Maggie Hays underground mine, the Lake Johnston processing plant and associated infrastructure, the operations date back to 2001 with a major expansion commencing in 2003. As part of this expansion, a staged upgrade of the processing plant from 250,000tpa to 1.2 million tpa was completed in early 2007.
Ore from the Maggie Hays nickel sulphide deposit, located three kilometres to the south of the processing plant, is hauled to Lake Johnston for treatment.
Lake Johnston is a fly-in fly-out operation and offers a range of opportunities for geologists, mining and production engineers, and metallurgists.
Exploration
Norilsk Nickel Australia is committed to an active exploration program on its extensive tenement holdings in the vicinity of Lake Johnston.
Many of these holdings - while covering broad extensions of nickel prospective stratigraphy - have previously been held by gold explorers and not explored for nickel, providing significant opportunities for Norilsk.
